The Annual Parish Meeting is a legacy from the Middle Ages, when local Parish Councils did not exist, and all local decision making was carried out by meetings of the whole community, taking place in any available large building eg the church vestry.
The Annual Parish Meeting is open to all electors of Offord Cluny & Offord Darcy Parish, who have the right not only to attend but also to speak on any matter of local interest.
This meeting is an excellent opportunity for residents to learn about local developments and voice their opinions on matters important to them. We usually have a great turnout, and as always, complimentary coffee, tea, cakes, and even a glass of wine will be provided. Additionally, several Village Societies and Organisations will be exhibiting in the Hall.
Parish and District Councillors will be present to answer questions. This year, we are pleased to welcome two guest speakers from Huntingdonshire District Council:
- Alison Riley, leader of the Residents Advice team, who will discuss the various opportunities and services available to residents.
- Lara Davenport-Ray, head of the Climate and Environment team, who will speak about measures to reduce the carbon footprint of the Offords, which is currently above the average level within Cambridgeshire.
Both speakers will also be available to address individual queries.
In the past, the Annual Parish Meetings have primarily consisted of presentations that filled the entire two-hour slot, leaving little time for dialogue. This year, we aim to change the format to allow much more interaction and discussion with residents.
